Gita Mandir / Map / Tube

The Gita Mandir is unique, in the sense that the values of holy book Bhagavad Gita were the inspiration behind this marvellous structure. This spectacular and beautiful shrine lies in the western ghats of Dwarka. It is relatively new Temple as it was built only in 1970 by Birlas, one of the biggest business families of India.

The structure of the temple is not only artistically elegant, but also has a pious faura about it. Made of marble, its walls are lavishly carved while its ceilings are beautifully embellished. The well known hymns of Bhagavad Gita are inscribed on the elegant ceilings and walls of the temple.

Another Fascinating feature of Gita Mandir is that any sound made in this hall is echoed. Same is true about the teaching of the Gita.

Panchanada Tirtha

After losing everything, their land, property, kingdom and wife, to the Kauravas, the Pandavas, come to this spot to do penance. Here they are admonished for gambling everything away. However, 5 sages are called to intercede on their behalf to the gods. They sit amongst the sand dunes with each of the Pandavas and they pray. Through their prayers and yogic powers, they draw the waters of 5 rivers, in the form of water wells, to where they are sitting (‘kunds’). The 5 rivers are,
  1. Jambuvanti from Gaya at Bhim Kund;
  2. Gomti from Lucknow at Arjun Kund;
  3. Ushawati from Goa at Nakul Kund;
  4. Chandrabhagas from Orissa & Maharashtra at Sahadev Kund; and,
  5. Laxmana from Badrinath & Himachal at Yuddhister Kund.
This is the reason why the water of each well tastes totally different, one from the other, though they are surrounded by salty sea water on all sides.

Sub City Named After

Laxmi to rukmani

In ‘Anushasam Parva’ of Mahabharata:
Once with the welfare of mankind in mind, Pradyuman’s mother Rukmani asked Goddess Lakshmi,”Devi, what kind of people and places please you to reside with them?”
Lakshmi responded, “
  1. I reside with people who speaks moderately, are efficient, do not lose their temper, are devoted, grateful, have control over self and are generous.
  2. I always live with people who are virtuous, religious, those that respect the elderly, are pure at heart and wise and forgiving.
  3. I live with women who serve their husbands, who are forgiving, truthful, balanced, simple and virtuous. They must respect the gods and Brahmins.
  4. I live with all those who are endowed with virtuous qualities. Wherever yagyas are performed, prayers are offered to gods, cows and Brahmins are cared for, I never leave those homes.”
  5.  I abhor and dislike such a person and desert him, if he is unabashed, quarelsome, has great penchant for sleep, is malicious, dirty, mentally restive and careless. If anyone has, even one of the said drawbacks or bad habits, I never hesitate to discard and desert such a person.
